In 1960, Kawasaki bought out Megero Motorcycles, which had been in the business since 1937. They took a brave move by offering every type of motorcycle type there was. It was a chance that would make or break them. It turned out to be a wise idea as they were able to steadily puch everything from a 50 model to the big twin 650CC and everything in between.
In 1928, Honda started his own repair shop. As a hobby he also was involved in building race cars. He did not start the Honda Motor Company until he was 41 years old in 1948. They manufactured many two stroke and four stroke motorcycle styles. He focused on the areas of quality and design, offering well made products to compete in the field.
The Harley-Davidson motorcycle has been in production since 1903. The brand offers many models for both sexes. While this brand of motorcycle is among the most expensive, the models also have a reputation for being reliable and well built. Harley-Davidson bikes are known for the power behind them as they were at first built as a racing bike.
The first Yamaha motorcycle was introduced in August of 1954, called the Yamaha YA-1. This bike featured a two stroke single cylinder engine. By July of 1955 Yamaha was creating 200 quality motorcycles each month with a staff of 274 people. The YD-1 was introduced in 1957 as a racing bike. The bike quickly became popular and was featured in the United States Catalina Grand Prix in 1958.
